Celebrating a $10M Investment in Canvas to Fuel Growth and Innovation

At Canvas, we’re incredibly excited to announce a $10 million Series A-1 funding round. This isn’t just a financial milestone—it’s a powerful validation of our mission and the execution that has brought us to this point. It’s a testament to the hard work of our team, the trust of our investors, and the incredible support we’ve received from our customers. We’re thrilled to have Trilogy Equity Partners, Foundry Group, Acquired Wisdom Fund, GC&H Investments, and Frontier VC backing us as we continue on this journey.

Key Achievements and Momentum

Since 2021, Canvas has served over 12,000 customers, modeled over 100 million square feet of interior spaces, and achieved $7.7 million in revenue this year. We are 50 people strong, spread across the globe—and we’re just getting started.

Why I Joined Canvas as CEO

When I joined Canvas as CEO in April 2024, I was drawn to two key things:

1. Customer Enthusiasm: Our customers’ excitement and genuine enthusiasm for our product. Their feedback showed me that our technology is essential to their work—turning hours of tedious manual labor into something automated, efficient, and impressive. I loved hearing how Canvas helped our customers grow their businesses, deliver better results, and earn more clients.

2. Technology’s Potential: The incredible opportunity to take cutting-edge technology like LiDAR, computer vision, and BIM—once reserved for large firms and massive projects—and make it accessible to all design and construction professionals, particularly in residential and light commercial markets. We want to bring technology where it can make the biggest difference, freeing professionals to focus on what they do best—whether that’s designing inspiring spaces, transforming existing ones, or bringing bold new structures to life.

I also feel a deep kinship with people in the design and construction professions. I’ve always admired those who can look at the world as it is and envision something more joyful, efficient, or beautiful. These are my kind of people—those who find satisfaction in creating something lasting and meaningful, whether it’s through design, renovation, or new construction. I’m proud to support their success and contribute in my own small way.

A Startup Reborn—Doing It Our Way

I’m incredibly proud of what Canvas has become and where we’re headed. Our journey has not been typical—or linear—and that’s what makes it special. Canvas originated as Occipital, a Techstars company founded in 2008, focused on 3D sensing, spatial computing, AR/VR, and hardware products. Over the years, we grew, shrunk, acquired businesses, spun off successful ventures, and learned valuable lessons along the way. We stand on the shoulders of many talented, passionate technologists.

Since 2022, after transitioning from Occipital to Canvas as the company’s sole focus, we’ve concentrated entirely on solving a critical problem for construction and design professionals—turning mobile 3D scans into precise, architectural-grade, design-ready models. With over 20 patents and 15 years of experience, we’re making the real world effortlessly designable for our customers.

With this recapitalization and the $10 million investment, we’ve officially turned the page on the Occipital era and are entering a new founding moment as a fully-fledged Series A-1 startup.

Harnessing the Power of AI To Eliminate Drudgery and Make More Space for Craft

Our growth is just beginning. The rapid pace and increasing accessibility of AI are supercharging our innovation as we push the boundaries of transforming digital twins into detailed, layered, editable, and accurate 3D CAD/BIM models. The pace of change is staggering, and we’re poised to lead. If you’re passionate about marketing, sales, or spatial computing and AI, we’d love to have you join us on this ambitious mission: To capture a digital twin of every property, transform it into structured data via AI, and power the full lifecycle of the property.

This Uncertain Moment in Construction

It’s clear we’re at a pivotal time for the construction and design industries. There’s optimism in the residential and light commercial real estate markets as interest rates lower, but there are also real concerns. Historic labor shortages may worsen with new immigration policies, and tariffs could increase costs. These challenges are real, but they’re also where Canvas fits in—by helping professionals work smarter, not harder, and making the process of capturing and modeling spaces more efficient, accessible, and affordable.

This Re-Founding Moment for Canvas

This Series A-1 investment comes at the perfect moment. We’ve been preparing for years to meet this moment—building our product, leadership, and now our ability to scale with this $10 million infusion. We’re ready to make an even bigger impact. We’re excited for what’s ahead and thrilled to continue our journey. Like the industry we serve, we’re resilient in the face of uncertainty and challenge—and we’re not afraid to dream big and build for the future.

So here’s to the future—where we keep building, innovating, and making things happen. Thanks to all our customers, investors, and team members who’ve helped us get to this moment. Let’s get to work!
